If you’re a traveler who loves earning points and miles, you probably know the usual suspects: Delta SkyMiles, United MileagePlus, and American Airlines AAdvantage. But what if I told you there are hidden gems out there—lesser-known airline reward programs with fantastic perks that could make your next trip more rewarding? Here are five underrated programs you should consider in 2025.
1. Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is a frequent flyer favorite for good reason. With its unique stopover option, you can book a one-way flight and enjoy a free stopover in Alaska’s hub cities like Seattle or Anchorage. Partnering with international giants like Cathay Pacific and Qantas, this program offers serious value for both domestic and international travelers.
2. Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
Turkish Airlines’ Miles&Smiles program may not be on everyone’s radar, but it should be. It offers exceptionally low mileage requirements for award tickets, including domestic U.S. flights through partnerships with Star Alliance members. It’s a goldmine for those who like to travel far and wide on a budget.
3. JetBlue TrueBlue
JetBlue’s TrueBlue program stands out for its simplicity and flexibility. Points are tied directly to the cash price of tickets, making it easy to calculate your rewards. Add family pooling, where you can combine points with loved ones, and you’ve got a program that’s perfect for families planning their next getaway.
4. Aeroplan by Air Canada
Aeroplan has completely revamped its offerings, making it a standout option for 2025. With a generous stopover policy (for just 5,000 extra points) and partnerships with dozens of airlines like United and Lufthansa, this program is perfect for long-haul travelers. Dynamic pricing makes redemption tricky at times, but the value is undeniable if you plan carefully.
5. Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles
Dreaming of a tropical getaway? Hawaiian Airlines’ HawaiianMiles program offers fantastic value for flights to and from Hawaii. With relatively low redemption rates and the ability to pool miles with family, it’s an ideal choice for anyone planning their dream vacation to paradise.
Why Choose an Underrated Program?
While big-name programs might seem like the obvious choice, underrated programs often provide better redemption value, more generous policies, and unique perks. If you’re tired of competing for reward seats or paying sky-high redemption fees, these hidden gems could be your ticket to better travel experiences.
