Ways to earn
- Earn Avios on eligible British Airways and participating partner flights. Earnings depend on the carrier, ticket, cabin and member tier; some tickets use eligible spend and others distance.
- Participating hotel, rental, shopping and card partners provide additional Avios earning. Check the market-specific card terms instead of assuming UK card benefits apply to U.S. cards.
Ways to redeem
- Book available Reward Flights on British Airways, Iberia, American Airlines and other eligible partners. Taxes, fees and carrier charges still apply.
- Avios can also fund eligible upgrades, part payment, hotels and car hire. Part payment reduces a cash fare and follows different conditions from a Reward Flight.
Important restrictions before booking
- Review the cash component as well as the Avios cost. Partner taxes, fees and carrier charges can vary; a reward ticket is not necessarily free.
- Changes and cancellations depend on availability and booking/service-fee rules. Some changes require more Avios.
- Bank transfers add Avios rather than tier points. Confirm account eligibility, the ratio and the award before submitting a transfer.
Household accounts
A free household account can combine the head's Avios with up to six other people, including children. Status remains individual. Redemption draws proportionally from members' balances, and bookings for people outside the household require the permitted nominated family-and-friends list. Membership-change restrictions apply.
Current elite-program overview
Membership starts at Blue. Published tier-point thresholds are 3,500 for Bronze, 7,500 for Silver and 20,000 for Gold. The collection year runs April 1 to March 31. Tier points are not redeemable Avios; consult the current flight and fare rules for earning and alternative qualification paths.
